About Me

by bluescrn

I’m Dave Reed (‘bluescrn’ in various places online), a games programmer with almost 2 decades of experience, ranging from mobile/F2P/Unity, to small indie projects, to cross-platform console development as part of a large team.

I’ve worked in the games industry as a programmer since summer 2000, and developed games as a hobby since well before that.

I’m particularly interested in graphics-related programming, and I’ve done quite a lot of that over the years, ranging from software 3D rendering on the GBA to working with lighting+shaders for Unity projects for mobile and VR. But I’ve become a bit of a generalist, working on anything from rendering tech to gameplay prototyping to building a lockstep multiplayer system.

When I’m not making games, I enjoy messing around with 3D printers and quadcopters, building/collecting Lego, and retro gaming.

Indie Projects

Little Acorns, released 2012, was a collaboration with Andy Gibson. It was a casual iOS platformer, featuring very smooth 60fps gameplay (on the devices of the time), with responsive controls and a fairly unique grappling/swinging mechanic. The was published by Chillingo in February 2012, and a later port to the Nintendo 3DS, ‘Super Little Acorns 3D Turbo’, was published by Pixel Toys

Skyriders was my attempt at an almost-completely-solo indie project, also targeting mobile.
